The founder of BPKS and President of DPI Mr. Abdus Sattar Dulal, was speaking at the Citizen Mourning Meeting in Memory of Late Begum Khaleda Zia, dated 16/1/2026, afternoon. Begum Khaleda Zia was the Prime Minister of Bangladesh three times. She was the first lady and an opposition leader on several periods and chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
Dear audience, the late Begum Khaleda Zia was not only wise, experienced, and possessed of boundless virtues, her sacrifice was infinite, and her personality, courage, and tolerance were exemplary.
For example, when the late Prime Minister was there, I had the opportunity to speak at a national program. The International Day of Persons with Disabilities program at Osmani Auditorium on December 3, 1994. I am speaking from my memories.
Sitting to my right was Khodeja Azam, Secretary, Ministry of Social Welfare, followed by Honorable Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, followed by Minister of Social Welfare Fazlur Rahman Patol. Khodeja Azam rose to deliver her speech. On this occasion, I boldly requested the Honorable Prime Minister, “Honorable Prime Minister, there needs to be laws and policies for people with disabilities in the country, which is Bangladesh’s commitment to the international community. She immediately handed me her notebook and said, “You said something nice. Write it down.” I wrote it down and she said in her speech, “Our government will formulate laws and policies for the welfare of people with disabilities.”
In addition, at another event at Mirpur Stadium 2004, I told, “Honorable Prime Minister, that allowances are given to disabled people in all developed countries of the world. It is necessary to introduce allowances for people with disabilities in our country. Allowances for disabled people were introduced in 2005 in her time”.
Late Begum Khaleda Zia was not only an ideal leader, she was a symbol of peace, a spokesperson for the disabled. She was a real human of the people. She will forever be a role model in our hearts.
I also say to Mr. Tarique Rahman, I would like to tell you to move forward with the ideals of your late father and mother. Strongly standing up and you lead the nation. Twenty-four million disabled people are with you.
Finally, I would like to inform you that our organization, “Bangladesh Protibandhi Kallyan Somity (BPKS) I will design a training course based on the leadership style of the late Begum Khaleda Zia and organize leadership training in her name regularly.
I pray for the eternal peace of the departed soul of this great mother, the late Begum Khaleda Zia. May Allah grant her Jannatul Firdous. Amen.
